GUIDED OPEN ACCESS

We were asked to create an animation to take viewers through Nature Portfolio's new 'Guided Open Access' publishing process. The client supplied a detailed infographic featuring some charming illustrations. Our task was to bring the illustrations to life and convey the process as concisely and clearly as possible.

We worked with the client to edit and refine the script, before designing a full storyboard. This involved adapting the artwork from the infographic, as well as creating new scenes to fill in gaps. We used a frame-within-a-frame device to contain the animated illustrations and allow the film to be easily adapted for different aspect ratios. We animated the cute 'article' character with as much expression as possible to add some light relief as it travels through the publishing process.

The film was supplied in four slightly different versions, one targeted to each of three primary journals as well as a generic version.
